Update: Minnesota State holds on to win 6-2. Kent Patterson, not surprisingly, replaced Alex Kangas in net to start the third. 13:08 MN PP Goal, Ness (2) from Schroeder (18) and Barriball (15). The fact that Aaron Ness scored his second goal of the season was overshadowed by the fact that the Gophers needed to get more than one goal off the five-minute power play to get back in the game. 4:11 MN Pen, Carman for hooking. 7:26, all I can say is what we saw. A Gophers skater was checked from behind in front of the MSU bench and in retaliation, Schack tackled Boe from behind. Boe went down and had to be taken off the ice on a backboard. Schack was sent to the locker room Second: Five goals in the second period has all but put this one out of reach for Minnesota. Here’s the rundown. Sorry I didn’t have much chance to go into detail. 7:37 MSU Goal, Mouillierat (11) unassisted. The Gophers defense turned it over right in front and Mouilierat was able to tap the puck through Kangas five hole. 10:29 MSU Pen Mouillierat for holding. 12:41 MSU Goal Mouillierat (12) from Geoff Irwin (10). The junior forward jumped out of the box, picked up the puck for a breakaway and scored his second of the night with a high shot blocker side. 13:46 MN Pen, bench minor for too many men on the ice, Larson serving. 14:30 MSU PP goal, Galiardi (7) from Louwerse (11) and Davis (23). Being down a skater didn’t help, but Minnesota State’s ability to move the puck around at will in the Gophers defensive zone brought Kangas out of place and gave the sophomore center plenty of time to score. A very brief offensive set by the Gophers that saw Mike Carman ring a shot off the crossbar came to an end when the Mavs made it 5-1 with just over two minutes left in the second. 17:57 MSU goal, Louwerse (12) from Harrison (5) and Irwin (11). The officials reviewed Carman’s post shot but confirmed just that. No goal. With just over a minute left in the period, Tony Lucia took a hit from Bruess and went down. In the resulting scrum, Schack and Bruess got into in and the result was seven guys in the penalty box. Schack, White, and Flynn all got roughing penalties for Minnesota. Bruess got a major for unnecessary roughness (elbowing) and a game misconduct. Didn’t catch who else went in for the Mavs. It didn’t really matter though, State made it 6-1 on a short-handed goal before the period was over. 19:44 MSU Goal, Stewart (5) from Galiardi (16). First: It wouldn’t be a road trip if I didn’t show up late to the game. Luckily, I got here just in time to see Mick Berge make it 1-0 in a first period dominated by the Mavs.
