The Minneapolis Police Department has arrested two members of the University of Minnesota’s wrestling team on probable cause of criminal sexual conduct, according to Hennepin County Jail records.
The two men were booked into Hennepin County Jail between 9 p.m. and midnight on Saturday, but are being held at different locations, according to the records. According to a statement from MPD spokesperson John Elder, they are currently booked in the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.
The incident is part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation, though MPD is leading the investigation, Elder said. It is currently an open and active investigation.
The University’s athletic department issued a statement on the situation, saying, “We are aware of a situation involving two of our student athletes and are in the process of gathering more information. These students have been suspended from all team activity pending further information. Federal and state law precludes any further details at this time.”
The Minnesota Daily is not naming the men because they have not been charged.
Update: A previous version of this story reported that the men no longer appeared on the online Hennepin County Jail Roster. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the men weren’t appearing on the roster due to scheduled maintenance of the website. The two are still in custody.
