Former University of Minnesota student and Gophers football player, Dominic Jones is requesting a new trial. Jones was convicted of sexual assault last spring According to KSTP: In an appeal filed last week, Jones requests a new trial for a number of reasons, including the fact that the defense couldn’t tell jurors the victim had sex with other players earlier on in the night in question. Jones was charged with third-degree sexual assault after police recovered a cell phone video of Jones performing a sex act on a woman who prosecutors said was too drunk to give consent. He was convicted of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, which involves unwanted sexual contact. Jones is currently serving a one-year sentence in the Hennepin County workhouse. A previous motion he filed in July to remain free pending his appeal was denied.
