University Police responded to reports of a man jumping from the Washington Avenue Bridge at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
University Police Sgt. Joe May said a witness reported seeing a man of medium height sitting on the bridge. The witness then returned a few minutes later to find the man preparing to jump. A brief wrestling match between the men ensued, but the man managed to jump, May said.
Police don’t know the man’s identity. No one has called the department to report a missing person, either.
May said the witness described the man as between 20 and 29 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with short hair and a light complexion.
The man was wearing a red baseball cap, a dark jacket and dark clothing when he jumped.
