Although the weather on campus was far from sunny and enjoyable, Friday marked the 41st Earth Day.
Small efforts were made around the University of Minnesota to celebrate the day.
Music for Mother Earth, organized by undergraduate student Brian Brown and the environmental alliance, featured a comedian, speakers and booths with information on green initiatives, products and groups.
The event, held outside of McNamara Alumni Center, will finish with a concert at Stub and Herbs. Local acts like Holly Newsom, Eric and the Funnettes will perform.
While participation at the University was small, statewide efforts have been made to celebrate Earth Day.
Environment Minnesota released guide aimed at helping people improve the energy performance of their homes and workplaces.
The City of Minneapolis held a watershed clean-up where participants help pick-up trash around the city’s lakes.
St. Cloud State University held a run in honor of mother earth. Held for over 10 years, the five run event had more than 4,500 runners.
