On-the-go, microwavable foods are essential to most collegiate diets. However, all these cheap options leave a little bit to be desired in the flavor department.
Turns out, it’s easy to serve up college staples like Pizza Rolls and Hot Pockets from scratch. The hardest thing about making them homemade is the dough, but using premade dough from a can works just as well.
So instead of heading straight to the frozen aisle at your local grocery store, gather the ingredients and give the following recipes a shot — they taste so much better. Plus, these pepperoni pizza rolls won’t be pockets of hot molten sauce.
Pepperoni pizza rolls
If you’re a vegetarian, follow the recipe without the pepperoni.
1 can of refrigerated premade dough from a can (crescent or pizza dough)
2/3 cup of pizza sauce
Enough pepperoni to cover the dough
3/4 cup of shredded cheese (your favorite kind)
Sprinkle of oregano
Sprinkle of garlic powder
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
2. Pop open the can of premade dough. Roll out of the dough onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
3. Generously spread pizza sauce on top of the dough.
4. Sprinkle some oregano and garlic powder for some extra seasoning.
5. Spread the cheese evenly throughout. Then add the pepperoni.
6. Roll up the dough according to the instructions.
7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until they’re golden brown.
8. Serve the rolls up with some dip to add more flavor.
Optional: If pepperoni isn’t your thing, then fill it with something else. Swap out the pepperoni, oregano and garlic powder with 1/3 cup of chopped ham for a ham and cheese pocket.
Also optional: This is a great recipe if you want to make a big batch and freeze them for later.
