Sen. Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook, announced his departure from the Minnesota gubernatorial race on Saturday. Bakk, who made the announcement at a party event in Duluth, said he didnâÄôt have enough delegate support to gain the party endorsement. Given the choice between additional campaigning and focusing on the immediate problems facing the state, Bakk decided to concede. Bakk received approximately 6 percent of the votes in the DFL party straw polls in February. His campaign focused almost exclusively on creating jobs in order to solve the stateâÄôs budget problems. The chairman of the Senate Tax Committee, Bakk is serving his second term in the Minnesota Senate. HeâÄôs said he may try for a third. He previously served four terms in the House. Bakk was one of about a dozen DFL candidates vying for the seat.
