A bill that would eliminate the so-called "last in, first out" philosophy when it comes to teacher layoffs passed the Minnesota House of Representatives Thursday. The bill will next go to the Senate.
Traditionally, teachers who are newer to the school would be considered sooner when staffing cuts become necessary.
If signed by Gov. Dayton, the bill would prevent seniority from becoming a factor in hiring and firing practices. Instead, the decision would be based on the teacher's performance, the Minnesota Daily previously reported.
