Minnesota’s men’s golf team finished 16th at NCAA Regionals at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., on Saturday, ending its season without a berth in the NCAA Championships.
With the top 10 teams advancing, the Gophers put themselves in a good position early in the final round. They sat in fifth through the eighth hole and had four players at or below par.
But Minnesota was 11-over on the back nine, falling three strokes short of qualifying with a 38-over 878.
Bronson La’Cassie led the Gophers, finishing tied for 14th with a 3-over 213. Ryan Paulson tied for 56th at 11-over, Ben Greve tied for 66th at 12-over, Niall Turner tied for 72nd at 13-over and Josh Persons tied for 120th at 23-over.
Pair of rowers honored
Minnesota junior rower Cheryl Wick was named a first-team All-Central Region selection, and senior Beth Ratterman was named to the second team Friday. Wick and Ratterman competed in every First Varsity Eight competition this year, helping the Gophers to a No. 15 ranking and a fifth-place Big Ten finish.
All-region softball
Minnesota designated player Stephanie Sward was named a first-team All-Mideast Region selection, and catcher Megan Higginbotham earned second-team honors Thursday.
Sward led the Big Ten with 28 stolen bases, while Higginbotham led the Big Ten with seven doubles and 49 total bases.
Ticer nabs senior award
Minnesota men’s tennis player Avery Ticer was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Ted Farnsworth Midwest senior player of the year May 18.
With a 14-4 duals record (6-1 Big Ten) Ticer was an All-Big Ten selection and will compete in the NCAA Singles Championships today through Tuesday in College Station, Texas.
