I realize that The Minnesota Daily did not write “State Muslim population not as high as estimated” (Oct. 9), but I think some basic facts should be made clear. Counting the number of Muslims by looking at the number of people “whose country of origin is predominantly Muslim” is not accurate. Many Muslims are actually American citizens, so basing the number of Muslims on country of origin will keep these people from being counted. Furthermore, many Muslims come from countries such as France (predominantly Christian) and India (predominantly Hindu) where there are smaller percentages of Muslims. The number of Muslims in the Twin Cities is definitely higher than 20,700 people. div class=”tagline” align=”right”> Heather Akou, graduate student, design, housing and apparel
