New polls conducted by Minnesota Public Radio and the Humphrey Institute examine the bailout packageâÄôs impact on the Senate race. Before the bailout was approved, Sen. Norm Coleman led Democratic candidate Al Franken by 9 percent. After the bailout, Franken jumped 10 percent, leading Coleman by 4 points. Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley stayed at 14 percent throughout both polls. The first poll was conducted between Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 among 346 likely voters. The second was between Oct. 3 and Oct. 5 among 418 likely voters. The margin of error was about 5 percent.
