Tarryl Clark, Rep. Michele Bachmann’s Democratic-endorsed opponent in the 6th Congressional District, announced Wednesday that her campaign had raised more than $2 million in its bid to unseat the controversial Republican.
That number’s impressive, but less so when one remembers that Bachmann already passed the $2 million mark – in March.
Clark’s $910,000 in the second quarter of 2010 is roughly $100,000 more than Bachmann raised in her first quarter (Page 2). Bachmann’s second quarter filings will probably see a fundraising boost following a high-profile rally with national conservative figure Sarah Palin in April. Just more than half of all of Bachmann’s contributions through March came from outside Minnesota, compared to 8 percent for Clark.
Update: Bachmann’s campaign announced that it had raised a stunning $1.7 million in the second quarter, and $4.1 million during the election cycle. In all of 2008, Bachmann raised a total of $3.4 million.
Clark’s fundraising haul allowed her to produce and air her first television ad of the campaign.
Campaign filings for the second quarter are due to the Federal Election Commission on July 15.
