On Saturday, Goodwill’s student-oriented resale shop Gina + Will closed its doors in Dinkytown after nearly six years in business.
Nick Adams, senior director of retail stores for Goodwill, said the shop would not be renewing their lease. The news comes amid struggles for many Dinkytown businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Adams said this was not a factor for the shuttering of Gina + Will.
“Every year we have a process where we review a store’s performance,” Adams said. “We make decisions on what’s right for our organization as a nonprofit to maximize our dollars. … [The decision to close] was a result of that process.”
There are currently 51 Goodwill stores in Minnesota. The thrift store off Fifth Street Southeast, adjacent to Starbucks, identified themselves as a “student-focused retail shop” that up-cycled and sold clothing and accessories.
