A drive-by shooting and a robbery – two separate incidents – were reported near campus, per two SAFE-U alerts.
The robbery took place in the early morning hours of Aug. 1, near South 26th Avenue and South 7th Street. Five male suspects, ages 14 to 16, robbed the victims at gunpoint before fleeing on foot toward Riverside Park at approximately 2 a.m.
Then, another victim, who was not a University student, was shot in a drive-by shooting near the intersection of 4th Street Southeast and 12th Avenue Southeast at around midnight on Monday. The unknown suspect fled the scene in a dark vehicle.
The SAFE-U alert for the shooting was sent out approximately an hour and a half after it occurred; the notification for the robbery was sent at around 11 a.m. Monday.
The Southeast Como, Cedar-Riverside and Marcy-Holmes neighborhoods have all seen an increase in overall crime compared to last year.
