The Gophers men’s gymnastics team will begin its final season on Jan. 30 with a home meet against Iowa, the University athletics department announced Thursday.

In October, the University’s Board of Regents voted to eliminate men’s gymnastics, along with men’s tennis and men’s indoor track and field, citing financial and Title IX challenges. The 2020-21 season marks the final season for each of the three men’s sports.

The Gophers’ schedule features six conference meets in addition to a virtual meet on Feb. 20 against a nonconference opponent that’s yet to be announced. The season will also feature a two-week break for the 2021 Winter Cup, which is a qualifying event for the Olympic trials.

The Big Ten championships, which were canceled last season amid the pandemic, are expected to be held April 3. The Gophers’ final season will come to a close where the season began, with the national championships taking place at Maturi Pavilion April 16-17.

If you all really care so much about these sports then go out and support them by attending meets and fundraising for them. The reason these sports are being canceled is a complete lack of interest from the public.
