As of Monday, the University of Minnesota ended its mask mandate on transit services according to a statement from the University’s Parking and Transportation Services website.

Students are no longer required to wear a face covering while riding campus buses. Metro Transit also got rid of their mask mandate Monday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to recommend riders wear masks in indoor public transportation settings, but that guidance will not be enforced.

The University’s decision comes after a federal judge struck down the CDC’s previous mask mandate on public transit.

The updated masking policy is the latest by the University, which lifted mask requirements for certain indoor areas on campus on March 21. However, students are still required to wear masks in classrooms, laboratories and healthcare settings.
