A years-long effort of city government, non-profit organizations and local youth advocacy groups, the UNICEF designation has been a long time coming, according to youth activists.
Despite threats from Uber and Lyft to leave Minneapolis if the ordinance passes, the city council is in favor of guaranteeing rideshare drivers’ wages match the city’s minimum wage.

In a 9-4 vote, the city council passed the motion, supporting guaranteed per-mile and per-minute compensation for Uber and Lyft drivers.
