The Gophers are right off a Big Ten win over UCLA, but they could not keep the pace against the University of Indiana. Minnesota fell 77-47 as they close out their regular season road games.
Following last week's win, Head Coach Niko Medved said the team chemistry has been unbelievable.
“We got a really connected group,” Medved said. “I’ll go to war with this group any day because they just exemplify everything I believe in coaching and the culture that we want.”
The Gophers continued to work together to create scoring opportunities, but it just did not translate onto the scoreboard.
Standout Performances
Despite the low offensive production, Senior Cade Tyson ended the game with 21 points, while shooting 50% from the field.
Tyson led the team in points and the rest of the starters were struggling to generate, like they did against UCLA. Junior Bobby Durkin did not shoot well tonight, ending the game with six points and shooting 22% from the field. However, he led the team with eight rebounds.
With Minnesota’s short roster, they could not keep up with the Hoosiers’ scoring. Indiana’s Sam Alexis, who averages around eight points per game, ended the game with 23 points. Right behind him Lamar Wilkerson finished the night off with 16 points.
Game Changer
The Gophers started the first half off slow, but they started to gain momentum after Tyson hit a go-ahead 3-pointer after a turnover by Indiana.
The rest of the half was competitive, but Indiana gained the upperhand after going on an 8-0 run to end the first half, 43-28, in their favor.
The Hoosiers’ momentum continued into the second half, where they continued to play dominantly on both sides of the ball. They ended with a 57% field goal percentage.
The Gophers, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm offensively. They ended the game shooting 32% and had 11 turnovers.
This was the smallest offensive performance from the Gophers this season, their previous being 57 points against the University of Washington.
What’s Next
The Gophers will continue to prepare for the Big Ten Tournament, but first they will close out their regular season at home against Northwestern University on Saturday.
