Midwest Mountaineering founder and owner Rod Johnson poses for a portrait in his store on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016 on West Bank. Johnson started his business in 1970 to get climbing gear at wholesale and began selling out of his kitchen for the first 6 months. After that, he opened a store on Hennepin Avenue, and in 1976, moved to the current West Bank location.
