Thursday MusicâÄî John Butler Trio This rabid bunch of Australian hippies have had no trouble gaining notoriety for their eclectic jam rock. After a lineup revamp and new album, Butler is still plucking away and doesnâÄôt sound like heâÄôll be stopping anytime soon. First Avenue 701 First Avenue North 6 p.m $25 FilmâÄî Rush : Beyond the Lighted Stage at Riverview Theater Rush wonâÄôt be arriving in Minnesota until the State Fair in August but for you impatient die-hards, hereâÄôs the next best thing: a candid, two hour documentary on the prog-rock icons featuring interviews from admirers that include Gene Simmons, Billy Corgan and even Jack Black. Riverview Theater 3800 42nd Ave S. 9 p.m $8 Friday Comedy âÄî Bobcat Goldwaith at Acme Comedy Bobcat Goldwaith has been a cult favorite for years. While releasing a series of underground screw-ball comedies such as âÄúWindy City Heat âÄù (Matt Stone called it âÄúbeyond geniusâÄù) and Worlds Greatest Dad (starred Robin Williams ). Goldwaith has also lent his comedic chops to shows like the ChappelleâÄôs Show , the Man Show and Crank Yankers . Guthrie Theater 818 South 2nd Street 7:30 $33 Saturday Music- Adam Lambert Comfortably flamboyant, eye-liner wearing Adam Lambert may be of the (runner-up) American Idol fame, but that hasnâÄôt kept him away from restless touring. Mystic Lake Casino Hotel 2400 Mystic Lake Boulevard Northwest 8 p.m $59-$69 Comedy- The Department of Redundancy Department This whacky and crazy bunch of yahoos deliver the goods with their zany humor. The troupe includes local talent from joke joints like Brave New Workshop and Church Basement Ladies . Bryant Lake Bowl 810 W. Lake St. 7 p.m $13-$15 Culture to Consume Read this: James Sullivan scrutinizes the moment that made late comedian George Carlin the most loved and loathed personality of his time in âÄúSeven Dirty Words.âÄù While thereâÄôs a great deal of coverage on the infamous supreme court case, Sullivan also includes plenty of morsels on CarlinâÄôs renegade past and his influence on stand-up comedy. Listen to this: Janelle Monae moves with the swagger of James Brown and sings with the spirit of Nina Simone . The androgynous Monae dazzled audiences with her much-talked about debut television appearance on Letterman earlier this summer and the momentum only seems to be building. Watch this : MinnesotaâÄôs own governor, Tim Pawlenty , will be (inexplicably) making an appearance on The Daily Show. Will T-Paw be able to keep up with Jon StewartâÄôs unrivaled wit? WeâÄôll just have to wait and see. Drink this: Grainbelt âÄôs latest concoction may have been elusive when it first arrived. But now that all the fanboy-like hubbub has finally blown over, Nordeas t is readily available just about anywhere you go. ItâÄôs as good as Premium just without the sweetness. Eat this: Amble on over for Slow Food Sunday at the Red Stag Supperclub , compliments of Chef Hauke. Oh, and itâÄôs Arts Industry Night, too. Click this : Eyjafjallajokull mightâÄôve given Iceland some bad publicity, but this seemingly pointless yet oddly hilarious dance party video has been burning up the blogosphere: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRl7-BAkRdg
