With President Obama’s upcoming visit to Minneapolis to discuss gun violence, Minnesota is seeing many gun violence related bills coming up.
As reported by the Star Tribune, upcoming bills include bans on assault-style weapons, better background checks, high capacity ammunition magazines, and preventing felons from being able to purchase guns.
WCCO reported that many of these bills will be discussed during three days of hearings from the House Public Safety Committee.
Washington DC is also talking about gun control heavily. Lawmakers there are looking at better mental health help. MinnPost reported yesterday that Senator Al Franken proposed a bill to help students access mental health help more readily. This came after a senate hearing on gun control where former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords showed up to press for better gun control.
Gun control is also expected to be a popular topic in President Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, a day after his Minneapolis visit.
