Minnesota moved Brandon Eggum from interim head coach to the permanent head coach of the Gophers wrestling team Thursday.
Eggum, a former Minnesota wrestler, was a three-time All-American during his collegiate wrestling career.
“Anyone who knows me knows this is my dream job and I’m thankful for the opportunity to live out that dream,” Eggum said in statement. “It’s an exciting day, no question.”
Eggum has been a wrestling coach at Minnesota since 2001.
“Brandon Eggum has been an incredible leader for our wrestling program since he became the interim head coach prior to this season,” Athletics Director Mark Coyle said in a statement. “I have great confidence that [Eggum] and his staff will lead our wrestling program to success at the highest level.”
Eggum was named the interim head coach on Aug. 1 after longtime coach J Robinson was fired when a University investigation found that he tried to cover up an alleged prescription drug-selling ring on his team.
