Josh LaBau was surprised this week when he walked into 210 Fraser Hall to pick up a promissory note. He found an express lane.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Student Services got a face lift.”
On March 18, the offices of the Registrar, Financial Aid and Student Accounts Receivable combined to become the Onestop Student Services Center in Fraser Hall.
“A student can come in, have a registration problem, talk to someone about financial aid or get promissory notes at the same time,” said Mary Koskan, associate registrar.
The center used to feature separate lines and staff for each office. Koskan said Onestop will now handle all issues and transactions at a central counter.
“Our goal is to have our counselors take a problem from start to finish,” she said.
Koskan said the new staff underwent four weeks of intensive training to become experts.
“The student that comes to see us has a problem and needs a specialist,” she said.
In addition, the center now offers an express desk for commonly requested items such as promissory notes and grade statements.
“If there’s any wait, it should literally only be seconds,” Koskan said of the express lane.
However, lines are still present at times in the center. Wednesday afternoon, approximately 25 students were waiting to meet with counselors.
The three offices will merge e-mail addresses and phone numbers by June.
