The Class of 2020 commencement ceremony is officially being moved online, according to an email sent out by University of Minnesota president Joan Gabel.
According to the email, the University is currently planning a “systemwide, virtual celebration” to take place on May 16.
The theme for the spring celebration is “Hail to Thee,” chosen as a reference to the state song and “ reflect our admiration for your incredible resilience in these stressful times,” per the email.
An on-campus ceremony will take place sometime in the fall.
The University announced on March 17 that commencement was postponed, not canceled, backtracking on a previous cancellation of the event. It gathered feedback from students on the best alternative method to celebrate commencement.
