Apparently, Hemingway's terse writing style doesn't spill over to his cooking. His hamburger recipe — that he titled "Papa's Favorite Hamburger" — features no less than 11 ingredients. Here I would've assumed he was the kind of man who would refuse any meal that took longer to prepare than to say its name.
The instructions, however, are pure Hemingway. He advises you to "let the meat sit, quietly marinating, for another ten minutes if possible." They're practical instructions from a practical man. Unsurprisingly, he manages to get some booze into his recipe.
