Nelson came to donate food but stayed to help and happened to have sign materials in her car. When she asked other volunteers what they needed, Nelson said that their biggest concern was letting people know that the food was there. “It all has to be gone by 8 p.m. [to comply with curfew],” Nelson said.

McConnell said that he was trying to funnel resources from his congregation in Edina to the community here. “It’s really easy for suburban white people to throw money at something and say that they’re invested,” McConnell said.
