The Minneapolis Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the University of Minnesota Southeast Steam Plant at 600 Main Street near Dinkytown, late Friday night.
A University emergency alert was issued, detailing a slight explosion, and first responders and University police secured the scene and controlled traffic. Individuals were asked to avoid the area.
According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out on the plant’s rooftop and a perimeter around the building was secured.
A second emergency alert issued just after midnight said the fire was no longer visible but the fire department was still at the scene and UMPD was continuing to perform traffic control.
