The University of Minnesota Undergraduate Student Government announced Fatima Aden and Izaan Rana as the new president and vice president Friday, who will replace current incumbents Riley Hetland and Ethan Fiegel. They defeated William Luther and Charley Rathgeber by a vote of 642 to 312.
Prior to the USG election’s, Aden and Rana held roles as speaker of the forum and director of student group representatives. Their campaign included four pillars for their campaign: public safety, affordability, representation and student group agency.
Aden has been involved with USG for multiple years and has developed skills on making a difference as a student herself.
“Over the past three years, in Undergraduate Student Government, Fatima has grown from intern to speaker of the forum, gaining firsthand experience in how students can drive meaningful change,” the website reads. “Not only is she the third-highest ranked in the organization, but she also leads the largest team.”
Luther’s and Rathgeber’s campaign also ran on four pillars including student power, college affordability, AI policy and student speech.
On Aden and Rana’s campaign website, Rana emphasized the importance of improving the experience of student groups, as he observed the difficulties of student organizations on campus in his previous role as the director of student group representatives.
“In this role, he interacts closely with student leaders and develops a deep understanding of the challenge organizations and the students they serve face on campus,” the website read.
The USG results also announced 20 new at-large representatives for the organization, including Jack Drouin, a former 2025 USG presidential candidate.
